India to licence all food importers

Draft Outline of Food Safety and Standards (Food Import) Regulations, 2011

These regulations will govern all food imports into India and seek to establish a system of licencing all food importers. This is a pretty big change in how imported food is regulated in India and food exporters should take time to note the sailient features of the new regime which could be in place as early as end of 2011.
