To do business in a country, one of the simplest ways to inform and arm oneself with the business environment is to regularly read the leading business newspapers.
Fortunately India has an extremely well developed business press with several leading daily newspapers dedicated to business.
Further almost all of them are available, free of charge and online.
As an aside, India is probably the only country where the number of English (and local language) newpapers and magazines is still growing ! so if you have something that you think is of value to the print news and entertainment industry - there are some opportunities out there - seize them now - get in touch with us.
For companies and individuals wanting to do business with India, we recommend a daily dose of reading the Indian business press. The leading business dailies to spend a bit of time every day are as follows: (The links all open in a new window and by clicking you leave our site)
Business World (Our favourite)
Business Standard
Economic Times
Livemint - which is a joint venture of the Wall Street Journal in India
Hindu Business LineBusiness
Moneycontrol - this one is the BEST if you are interested in the Indian listed companies
Finally, last but not the least, if you want some serious insight into the confluence of society and business and politics (trust us - politics is a serious factor in India - after all being the largest democracy, one would expect that !), we recommend:
Tehelka which literally translates into "Sensational Happening" (or something like that).
Moving to to TV, They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, well a moving picture must be worth a million words ! Television offers a glimpse into the soul of a society like no other.
If you want to do business with India, we strongly recommend watching some Indian TV from time to time, other than being informative, it is also quite enjoyable and you get a view of what the nation thinks about major business issues rather than just depend on the good old, rather scrappy coverage of Indian business developments.
Good news is that you can do it on the Internet ! (there are a few satellite options around and of course the famous StarPlus channel on Sky - but that is Indian soap - good to learn about the culture but so direct coverage of business issues unfortunately).
Well here are the links to some of the Indian business TV channels available online to any "good ol broadbanded Kiwi" - no registrations or logins required nor anything to download. (The links all open in a new window and by clicking you leave our site)
In addition we strongly recommend Nyoo TV - this one is so cool - not strictly business but great technology. If you are into free TV on the Internet, it is a bit like Hulu which is a the joint venture between NBC Universal, News Corporation and Disney.
If you have any problems with any of the above, do let us know, we do watch hourly (joking) but can miss things sometimes - do let us know
